Bobby has been blessed with a wonderful family; they are his rock.
His beautiful wife, Lauren, is a Navy Veteran and also a graduate of the United States Naval Academy. They have two wonderful daughters, AmyMarie and Josephine. Their family was made whole by their two dogs, Poncho and Sherlock.
His late father, Bob, played in the NFL in the 1970s for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Atlanta Falcons. His mother, Carolyn, is a very successful real estate agent, and they were residents of Fayette County for over 35 years. His supportive sister, Natasha, graduated from Sewanee, The University of the South in Tennessee. His younger brother, Brandon, forged his own path of service graduating from the United States Air Force Academy in 2005; he flew hundreds of hours of combat missions during the Global War on Terrorism.
Bobby Rashad Jones was born in East Point, GA and moved to Fayetteville at nine years old. His parents, Bob and Carolyn Jones, moved to Fayette County because it was the #1 rated public school system in the State of Georgia. His parents understood the value of a quality education and enthusiastically enrolled him at Fayetteville Elementary School followed by Fayette County Middle School.
Because of the high-quality teaching in the Fayette County Schools, Bobby was accepted to the Westminster Schools of Atlanta, one of the top private high schools in America. While at Westminster Bobby excelled in many disciplines to include Academics, Band, Ensemble, Student Newspaper, and the Academic Quiz Team.
Following in his father's footsteps, a former Atlanta Falcon, Bobby began playing football his junior year at the Westminster. Despite being a three-sport athlete, football became his first love. Bobby became nationally ranked as a college football recruit and was named Academic All-State his senior year. Despite being offered multiple football scholarships Bobby chose to pursue and accept an appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
Despite a full academic schedule Bobby was able to work his first job at the Chick-fil-A Dwarf House in Fayetteville. It was there that he not only learned the meaning of a full day's work, he also learned that respect and opportunity are earned through honest hard work.
After accepting an appointment to the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, he lettered in Football and Track, and was designated a Surface Warfare Officer upon commissioning with the Class of 2001.
Bobby's at-sea assignments have been Deck Officer onboard USS Germantown (LSD 42) and USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49), Fire Control Officer onboard USS Normandy (CG 60), Weapons and Combat Systems Officer onboard USS Stethem (DDG 63), and Executive Officer USS Anzio (CG 68) and Coastal Riverine Squadron FOUR (CRS-4). He participated in Operations Enduring Freedom, Noble Eagle, Inherent Resolve and the rescue of 10 detained American Sailors near Farsi Island.
Ashore, Commander Jones past assignments include Admissions Counselor at the United States Naval Academy, Peacekeeper for the United Nations Mission in Liberia, Wargames Planner for the Missile Defense Agency, and Executive Assistant to the Commander of Military Sealift Command.
He assumed duties as Commanding Officer, Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron FOUR (MSRON-4) in May 2020. While in command, he deployed and also assumed duties as Commander, Task Group 56.7, where he led various missions in the Fifth Fleet Area of Responsibility (Middle East), to include force protection of American assets and infrastructure, assisting in the Afghanistan Evacuation Mission and strategic cooperative engagements with key American allies. For his final tour he was responsible for the teaching and training of Midshipmen (students) at Morehouse College and the Georgia Institute to Technology as Deputy Commander, NROTC Atlanta Region. Commander Jones retired from Active Duty on September 30th, 2023.
Bobby is the recipient of various awards and citations to include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Commendation Medal and multiple Battle “E” Awards. He was the 2021 Navy recipient of the Blacks in Government Military Meritorious Service Award.
He received his Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College. He is currently pursuing a second Master’s Degree at the School for Public and International Affairs at the University of Georgia.
